"Truthout: Tell us about voting irregularities in the primary, which resulted in Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff running against Republican Karen Handel today.

Greg Palast: It's ugly in the Sixth. One of the worst parts is the systematic disenfranchisement of the Asian American community. For years, I’ve followed the work of the Asian-American Legal Advocacy Center, a group running a campaign to register new Americans to vote. When the group complained about thousands of the collected names missing from the voter rolls, the Secretary of State, a Republican, retaliated against them. According to attorney Nse Ufot:

They were doing a campaign to register 10,000 Korean-Americans to vote, and had quite a bit of success. At some point during the campaign, they noticed that many of the folks that they were registering were not showing up on the voter rolls. So, they reached out to the Secretary of State to say, "Hey, where are our folks? Why aren't they showing up on the rolls?" They never got an official response. What they did get was the GBI kicking in the door and requesting all of their files.

While no charges were brought, the terrifying raid was enough to put the Korean voter group, the Advocacy Center, out of business, according to Ufot, though some of their work has been taken over by a new group.

And Ufot's own group, New Georgia Project has seen the registrations of new voters of color suspiciously vanish.

Ufot told me, "We submitted 86,419 voter registration forms. There are 46,000 of the folks that we've registered who have made it, and 40,000 of them are missing."

So, New Georgia Project contacted the Republican Secretary of State's office.

"You know what they told us?" Ufot asked. "'We don't know what you're talking about. What forms?' They did not disappear. We intentionally registered voters on paper forms so that we could make copies. We knew who they were. They were not on the voter rolls."

When African American activists raised a ruckus over the disappearance, they got the same treatment as the Korean Americans: a Gestapo-style raid on their offices, threats of criminal charges and jail term."

Panera is OK. The bread bowl was innovative at the time but the prices are pretty egregious these days imo. I'm an Einstein Bros type of guy.

Panera doesn't even make bread bowls anymore, they put a little bit of soup in a big piece of bread and you wonder what happened to the rest of the soup

lol your first paragraph is literally wrong.

I find it not so interesting when the guy who wants to murder millions thinks that a person who actually agrees with the policy goal in question is actually saying it's okay to subject them to violence because he said hey, calling Kamala Harris a slaver isn't going to help you get closer to your goals come 2020. But you routinely try to reframe what people say to better ft your narrative so.

Apple crunch muffins at Panera are maybe the best chain restaurant muffin

I'd vote for Trump over like Ted Cruz probably, its a meaningless distinction. and if we get two shit options the shittier one will probably get elected again, we should avoid that by having very high vetting.

Seeing as it was responding to your statement that we're talking about strictly technical slavery, it was not a far fall.

  12. Is this entire argument still over the lawyers for the AG's office in California making that argument in court? Or is there something else I'm missing/did she say something about it personally and support it or something?

  13. Yeah, the ACLU's stance on free speech has always been practically absolute. A lot of their well known cases have been in that arena. I've gone from being a free speech absolutist in my youth, to having wavering thoughts on that extreme as I get older.

ACLU are morons. Pretending to not be able to tell the difference between bad and good is idiotic.

It definitely has a positive reputation that it doesn't deserve but I don't hate it, personally. I'd never suggest going there but if I was with someone who wanted to go I'd find something there to eat. I just don't have any strong feelings toward it either way.

But also, contrary to what I'm sure many people on here might think, I'm not a liberal so it shouldn't be surprising that I don't worship Panera ;-)

    It me.

I take you at your word that you're willing to sacrifice marginalized people for political efficacy. So, when people criticize Kamala Harris for impoverishing and criminalizing sex workers, many of whom are people of color, trans, immigrants, etc., you say that this does not matter. You've said as much before in regards to the '90's democrats. You've also said that you don't care much about the people outside of US borders. This is just a long line in a string of arguments we've had where your political calculation involves actively hurting marginalized groups, hence my usage of the term "liberal racist", because it is a form of racism that gains its conviction from saying the right things, but acting in a manner that actively participates in oppression.
