I'm really curious on the turnout for the hard rock stage. I feel like they invested some money to get those bands on it but I feel like it will be the smallest stage with the exception of anti flag.

 

Strung Out had an extremely small crowd. Thats the only set I saw on that stage, but I don't expect that stage to draw much based on the crowd this year. All of the older fans I saw all day were there for GWAR, not any of the older punk bands.

 

We have no idea what's going on with BAAO. They're not exactly being descriptive with what's going on either.

 

They probably fucked up something on their end tbh.

 

I was only at the Full Sail stage for 2 bands, but Knocked Loose seems to by far have the biggest crowd turnout (they were even the last band of the day). Also security guards were moshing, as well as the Movements singer, and the Neck Deep dudes were just sitting in the crowd watching as well.

 

Today was awesome, I had way more fun than I expected considering my lukewarm response to the lineup. I ended up seeing ten bands, and the only real conflict I had was GWAR/Movements and I picked Movements. Knocked Loose, Creeper and Goldfinger were probably my favorite sets of the day.

I got setlists for Counterparts and Movements, I'll post them when I get home unless someone beats me to it.

 

That set was so much fun

 

I am so sunburnt. But today was really awesome and a lot more fun than I was expecting. Ended up seeing Doll Skin, Being As An Ocean, The White Noise, Neck Deep, Jule Vera and then partial sets of Boston Manor and Hundredth. Super fun, but I'm so exhausted.

 

I'll be spending most of my day at Hard Rock aside from CKY, GWAR, Carnifex, and Creeper. It's a shame if that stage draws poorly, but I'll likely get good spots for all the bands so screw it. 90s Punk was my first musical love and why I started going to Warped in the first place.

They were fun as always!

 

The band has said the album is done and turned in. Haven't heard about the artwork issue. I guess it's Equal Vision ignoring that really is just shitty of them.

 

Exactly what I'm doing. I was just hoping that the stage drew well and they continue bringing in punk bands every year. Its hard to justify it with the small crowds.

 

Today was a lot of fun. I saw Neck Deep, Being As An Ocean, Stick To Your Guns, Strung Out, Boston Manor, Silverstein, GWAR, Creeper and I Prevail. Favorite sets of the day belong to Creeper, Silverstein and GWAR.

Creeper had a small, but voted crowd and the band sounded amazing. GWAR is a spectacle that anyone who is a music fan should experience. I'm not a huge fan of the music, but they put on one hell of a show.

Weird having this over already. Portland is typically the last date so it feels weird having it over before the summer is almost over

 

I saw the comments beforehand. Every single one was criticism.

 

went to the salem date so i will do a quick run down.

First of all the venue aside from a lack of shade was absolutely perfect and I wouldn't mind a permanent change from Portland to Salem.

Too Close to Touch played first and was having a lot of technical difficulties but you can't blame them for that, when they had everything working they sounded pretty good.

Counterparts was next and they played an incredible set including 2 new songs with little to no crowd interaction but that is to be expected when you play at noon.

Emmure was a surprise, a lot of people were moving and having a good time and they actually sounded like a decent band. Josh Travis really improved them although I can not tell the difference between any of their songs still.

Being As An Ocean played a somewhat underwhelming set immediately after. I did not care for their setlist.

I caught the last little bit of Hands Like Houses set and they sounded like they were lacking something, might have been a bad day for technical problems but it definitely was lacking.

Stick To Your Guns played an incredible set with great crowd reaction. Brought out Bryan from Knocked Loose for guest vocals and everyone went nuts.

Fit For A King played afterwards, and while i am not the biggest fan of their music, they definitely impressed with a good mix of technical playing and straight up breakdowns.

I was in the area of Sworn In while they played. They were bad.

Boston Manor played a nice set and had a decent sized full sail crowd.

The Acacia Strain played to a very amped up crowd afterwards. The vocalist doesnt even try to announciate the words anymore but the crowd just does it for him.

Silverstein played an incredibly fun and tight set to an active crowd, not the biggest fan of their music but really enjoyed the set.

Movements played an AMAZING set. I fully believe they are better live than on record in every way and they are very good on record. Definitely check them out on your date.

Gwar played to one of the absolute biggest crowds ive ever seen in a warped environment, people seemed to enjoy themselves.

Dance Gavin Dance had a very underwhelming setlist but made up for it with an extremely tight performance, Will Swan can definitely play the guitar.

Knocked Loose played the last set of the night. Easily the best set I have ever seen in any warped tour environment. They had by far the biggest full sail crowd I've seen yet. Every single perso in the crowd knew every single word and was throwing down the entire set. They played a perfect mix of old and new and just kept the whole place moving the entire time. Security seemed to be having a blast and everyone else was too. Watch knocked loose at your warped date.

 

Not surprising tori raised the bar for pit blogs now and the new girls first one being a minute and 20 I bet pissed many people off it wasn't good at all

 

That's odd. I talked with Tyler back in March about the artwork and he did say he found that picture from a file sharing website. He then talked with the guy who took the pic and it lead to them using it for the album. I wish I knew where it was in the podcast but the whole thing is a great listen for BAAO fans: Episode 93: Tyler Ross (Being As An Ocean)

Not a problem! I understand your frustrations but I have to reserve judgement on that whole thing. It's an odd scenario but if I were to hazard a guess, EV shelved the album due to not believing it's profitable. BAAO then asked for their release and now we're in a standstill. That's what I believe is happening but we have no idea.

 

How does that work if it's done though? Even if they'll lose money, a lot of that cost is already sunk. You'd think putting it out and recouping some money is better than none.

 

There's a number of albums that are shelved throughout the history of the music business. Let's say this album cost $50k to make. After distribution, marketing, merch bundles, etc, you're looking at least double. If the album flops, it not only hurts the label financially, but also hurts the band financially and with touring. If this brings in $10k in the first week, would you rather be in the hole for 90k or bite the bullet at 50k? With touring, who wants to bring out a band who just had a terrible album? Suicide Silence is the perfect example of this.
