A little off topic but does anyone know if that "devil and i" line in the Mansion is a deliberate Weatherbox reference?

 

Yes, Andy sings the last verse of the Weatherbox song and wrote The Mansion as a "sister" song.

Don't get me wrong I love TROW but any time I've seen a live video they sound pretty bad. I guess they don't actually play live very much.

I listened to Flies today!!! Was going to post about that song too. That's creepy.

 

TROW needs to be a full time band. May have missed their window but I thought they were gonna be special.

 

TROW are pretty special in a recording/releases sort of way. They've self produced, created really diverse material...a whole lot of it.

Plus, on top of TROW there have been Tigers on Trains, Souveneer, Year Fifteen and American Goapel releases to keep fans interested.

 

I completely agree and love almost everything they have put out... but I don't think anything has really taken off. Their reach seems to be really small and I'd correlate a lot of that with doing a couple shows a year in the NE US.

 

been meaning to add this about The Gold... so in the large bio on the concord music website they talk about how they wanted to explore room sound on this record.. like capture natural reverb of the rooms they recorded in. I think its awesome and really cool idea.. so in the gold you can really hear this on the choruses, especially when the band pulls back and the vocals are almost isolated... my first thought was wow, andy has some sort of vibrato going here but upon listening with good headphones this is room sound.. it almost sounds like a shakyness or vibrato with the voice...

My guess is they recorded those vocals in a room with a lot of natural reverb... rather than doing what most vocals do and thats record vocals as dry as possible and than smack on artificial reverb. I could be wrong but when we were tracking Out of Service vocals we had to redo some parts bc there was too much room sound and it gave our singer a really similar sound, which wasn't what we were going for. obviously Manchester did this on purpose and really captured the ambiance of the room that they recorded in. this is a somewhat meaningless rant I guess, I just thought it was really cool that they talk about that in the bio and it immediately stood out to me as something they captured really well.

 

You probably won't like this album if you're expecting any bangers

I'd agree. No label, no promotion outside what they do themselves. And when they started, and may still be the case, that some members were in school. Not officially sure why Gregg left, but I thought he had been a graphic designer as well or something. Great recording band though.

 

Are we talking Illinois, Age of Adz, or Carrie and Lowell Sufjan?

Speaking of ILAVLAC it was back in stock so I finally picked it up on vinyl!

 

Worried about having to buy one of these for every person in my party....but oh well! bought two for two separate dates.

 

Curious what the poster for specific dates will look like and if they will be different. The tour sadly isn't within 6 hours of me and those shows are on weekdays so I won't make it, but I love poster designs

 

I just want the 7". @BoldTitan if someone in your party doesn't have a record player or just doesn't want it for some reason, in your guy.
