maybe we can convince trump to call for a snap election saying that it'll give him the chance to win the popular vote and get a true mandate.

I think Bernie's ideas are popular and having someone of that nature running breaks the discourse to which that constituency been subjected and offers a choice between social Darwinism and taking care of everyone within the community. Even if they lost, it would open up a space for legitimacy within the conversation to continue a push to the left. But, it isn't only an electoral question, it is a question of the hypothetical candidate mobilizing workplaces and other outlets to come out for them. The vast majority of people want Medicare for all, higher taxes on the super rich and infrastructure spending. They want, in other words, universal programs they are invested in. I think that pitch travels farther than you think. I could be wrong. The point, however, is we'd have an unapologetic left-wing that is considered legitimate.

  10. I feel we woulda seen that in places where candidates like Teachout lost. And instead they lost, and it hasn't materialized.

I don't think she's a good example, but I take your point. My point is, rearticulating the entire left project. Sanders and his cohort are limited in many ways and I think we can do better than them, honestly.

Realistically, what needs to happen is people in the David camp need to be strategic and pragmatic and try to keep Republicans out of seats, even if it's with neoliberals. And people in the Dom camp need to do enough ground game that farther left policies are actually popular enough to be viable among people who will vote. Both things really should happen simultaneously.

Folks, I don't want to jinx it, but goddamn, I'd sort of forgotten what happiness on a political level felt like. The tabloids, the markets, the conservatives, common sense, were all wrong. Someone put forth an uapologetic left-wing platform and did the goddamn thing beyond all expectation.

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

I'm too young to have known anything else. So this is like the happiest moment in politics I've ever had.

Same. But I'll take it where I can get it and will try to take some lessons from it. I mean, goddamn, man.

  24. People are gonna dramatically "over learn" some lessons from the UK stuff that doesn't apply over here aren't they?

Great. Probably one of my bigger worries.
