So question about how oyur system works....I see a lot of "Labour 38% Conservative 42% type polls....but don't the individual seats in parliament depend on certain "districts" or whatever that those seats represent? Like, is it feasible for Labour to gain some seats in parliament despite 'losing the popular vote'?

Yes, which is what people are hoping for, I think. Elections here basically work like your congressional elections, so a party can make gains and not still be in power. And that absolutely can depend on local issues in individual constituencies.

I love that point about making an argument by actually arguing against positions rather than just trying to provide more nuance on Tory positions. It's what brought me to the Labour party after 2015 and is pretty much the main reason I'm where I am.

Thank you. So basically hoping for enough Labour gains for a hung parliament that forces a coalition?

Yup! The fact is the conservatives have very few friends outside the party so a hung parliament is almost certainly an absolute loss for them.

Initial reports seem to be of above average youth turnout. Hope this keeps up throughout the day, it's exactly what we need to be hearing

There's a BBC fact check here. "Does the weather impact turnout?"

Whatever the result, an increased turnout in the younger generations is a very welcome and positive outcome.

Agree with what @Jamie Dagg has said. What people don't realise is that we're voting for a representative to represent us in Parliament. In theory, the party with the most MPs form the government. If one party doesn't have an overall majority that's where you get the whole 'hung parliament' potential coalition situation. The latter outcome has only been more feasible since the rise of SNP in Scotland - before Labour could get a majority due to support in Scotland but now they struggle north of the border.

It gets confusing due to the personalisation of politics. People say "I voted for Corbyn" etc. No, you're not! You're voting for a Labour candidate in your area to represent you in Parliament. Yes, that shows you might support Corbyn, but you're really selecting someone to represent your area. I guess you could say you're indirectly voting for him. Only people in Corbyn's constituency are actually directly voting for him.

Hope that helps and doesn't confuse!

Absolutely. Despicable yet completely expected that the Tories made no effort to encourage young people to vote. I hope that that is their nail in the coffin. I really have no idea what turnout in general will be really.

Unbelievable how so many people are unconvinced by that tweet. The replies are horrifying. People don't understand at all.

Apparently Katie Hopkins has threatened to leave the UK if Corbyn wins. Surely this will result in a Labour landslide?

  19. I feel like there arent many people who voted for Corbyn as leader before who would switch because he lost right? Like you either bought into the Blairite bullshit or you didn't

After how amazing Corbyn has been during this election campaign, I wouldn't be surprised if even more people join Labour to vote him in again if the Blairites attempt another coup. He's politically energised a lot of people from what I've seen over the last 7 weeks.
