Like, what's the reasoning for that?

I feel like there's either bad news about Maclin coming out or a big move from the Chiefs coming up

 

I have to imagine that he got popped for something. Its not like they have many good WRs

 

Frees up a ton of cap space, but still...kinda crazy

Chiefs are tight to the cap (looks like $2.5mil in space), so if they have anyone they want to extend, this frees that up

 

how long until the Ravens sign Barnidge and Maclin?

They could use Maclin badly, but, unless they are gonna restructure Flacco they have no cap space

Theres an interesting world where the Eagles trade Matthews to the Ravens (cheap 1yr deal) and sign JMac instead. But honestly, knowing Andy Reid's history of getting rid of guys before they go to shit, I'd be terrified of signing Maclin.

Even if his cut was 100% a cap thing; I'd still think Maclin actualy has a torn ACL that will only be revealed after he signs

 

I'll take him in Buffalo he can join his very good friend Shady. Add in McDermott and Juan Castillo...we're just having a 2009 Eagles reunion

Thats part of why they made that trade; they need to clear cap space bad, and Maclin + Smith are gonna be gone. They are $10mil over the cap for 2018, and even cutting Smith only gets them $7mil under.

Mahomes better be a top half QB come 2018, and a top 10 QB thereafter for them not to be starting the traditional "9-7/10-6, we arent going anywhere but we cant fire Reid" string.

 

I just feel like it's weird to eliminate receiving options, they can't literally become a trick team. Even if Maclin isn't what you're paying him for, the best corner is likely on him and it spaces out things for hill and tyreke. Now you have no one helping that, are still doing rbc and Alex smith is gonna literally go 3 and out a few times more. I'm more concerned Mahomes may be a starting qb on a very agerage team by the time he gets the chance with the way their timeline is headed. I think they may be an 8-8 team that regresses following this year. The only reason I think Reid will be there at least 5 more years will be because he can blame Alex smith for being Alex smith, if mahomes isn't good he is screwed.

 

Welcome to an Andy Reid team, basically. Comically undertalented at WR and putting pressure on an otherwise good (but not great) QB to carry it all.

 

They have one of the best secondaries, gonna be fun for them when the offense does nothing and they shoulder the load.

 

Torrance Small, Chad Lewis, James Thrash (x2), Todd Pinkston, LJ Smith, Reggie Brown, D-Jax, and Jeremy Maclin all led the Eagles in recieving without breaking 1000yds.

Only TO (2004), Kevin Curtis (2007), and D-Jax (2009, 10) did that. And of course, the TO year is the year they broke through to the SB.

Zay jones is gonna be their only receiver and it sucks, I just feel like Watkins isn't gonna work out for the bills but be a monster for his next team.
