don't worry the socal people are now getting into hiking also. I'm constantly seeing my friends from there post hiking pictures and be all artsy.

I normally make a joke related to one of their pictures or their bio. I'm not one to really open up with complements or pick up lines, and you have to say something somewhat interesting, so i'm generally left with having to say a joke or ask a question. mutual interests leave some wiggle room too.
