Meh. They've been playing shows around the area.

Another example of the occasional ineptitude that exists within Riot Fest.

Bit of a let down. But realistically, if there were 25+ bands you were interested in seeing in the first wave, that's probably all you need to fill the three days adequately. Like another 15 bands I'm stoked about would just be 15 bands I won't have time to see haha

ATDI and Cap'n Jazz would be better additions if they weren't already playing Chicago in the coming weeks. Plus, all the concerns about diversity/representation are negated in my eyes by inviting a band like The Casualties to play considering the sexual assault allegations around their frontman.

Edit: Disregard ATDI being included in this statement, but my point still stands. This announcement was primarily undercard additions to pad out the other stages.

    Not surprising.

Radar State only has an EP out at this point right? Wonder what the likelihood of getting a couple TGUK tracks is...

I'm sure it's pretty good, given the two parties involved. I'm also having my fingers-crossed that by the time this rolls around they'll have a full-length or something else on the way.

Also: Pretty sure it's just a 7-inch with two songs. Could be wrong, though.

This is probably my least favorite lineup since I started going to the festival 5 years ago, but oh well. It'll still be a ton of fun and there's more than enough bands for me to see

Yep, you're right. Seems pretty likely then that they play a few TGUK songs.

I wonder if something fell through. By my count, that's not the 25+ bands that they said they were adding.

Is there any significance to them labeling the recent announcement (second wave) as opposed to final lineup?

Any chance we can expect further band announcements?

Album announcement I think will come around 12 or 1

Maybe. They supposedly listed Good Charlotte by accident in an email during the first wave, and they are noticeably absent in this announcement. Let's also not forget that they announced the lineup early this year, so they have extra promoting time from now until the festival. With that said, I wouldn't count on anything unless they say there's more coming.

Yea that's underwhelming. I'm sure there's some good bands in there, but no one I'm really familiar with. I don't listen to much ATDI but they could be cool to see. Cap'n Jazz is not that exciting considering they're playing House of Vans for free July 29th. Best Coast I don't listen to, but I mean I guess it ties this to Paramore's tour.

I thought at the very least Sum 41 and Sorority Noise would be added after their May shows here. I guess I'm just left confused what the point of holding a lot of these back was. It would've been better to just have announced all these right away and saving like 5 to announce with ATDI. But like others said it'll still be a great time, and this just means less conflicts I guess, so it's not all bad.

I mean, they still have the album plays to get added. So there's a chance there's more bands in the mix... I think where this festival gets in trouble is consistently making very specific promises and not delivering. They would be better served just saying "MORE BANDS TBA" like most do and keeping it general.

I fully agree with you too around the conflicts. If all of these were bands I was truly ecstatic about? I'd wind up with more bands to see, more conflicts, etc. But don't worry. We have plenty of time for people to complain about conflicts!

Yea that's exactly the problem. Instead of hyping people for 25 bands (implying the next wave is a big deal), more bands tba would keep it generic and I would'nt have expected that much. I wonder if those last 2 albums are still bands that haven't been announced or if they are already on the lineup and just haven't announced they're playing an album yet. And if there's one thing we can guarantee, it's that there will be plenty of conflicts for people to complain about. It'll be fun!

Why did I think I saw that they were announcing the last 2 albums today too?

  23. alkalinexandy

Because they mentioned it in their newsletter yesterday.

It's a subtle thing, but "under promising and over delivering" is a really helpful trick in life. In their defense, the only failing on them is not delivering on the exact number of bands (and if we don't get it today--the album plays). They didn't hype it up to be a huge announcement, they didn't promise additional headliners, etc. All of that was just us idiots getting overexcited and reading into things and making wild guesses.
