  1. I'll check it out still. I wasn't crazy about the song that was released.

  2. It's one of my least favorites on the album, but it's probably the kind of thing to introduce people to the band that never heard "Superman." Heh.

Is the song with Mark cool??

  4. It's just hard for me to call it Goldfinger because of who is in the band aha. I feel like it's a super group.

  5. I don't care about the "names" of bands as much as some people do apparently.

From the blink family, since 2002 we've gotten albums like Box Car Racer, untitled, When Your Heart Stops Beating, Neighborhoods, and Dogs Eating Dogs, all more mature outputs than the preceding Buddha, Cheshire Cat, Dude Ranch, Enema of the State, and Take Off Your Pants & Jacket. Even on those albums, more serious tracks like Stay Together for the Kids and Adam's Song are undeniably catalogue highlights. It's not like the band is pure dick jokes all the time. They demonstrated a growth and often (though admittedly not always) were very confident and quality when they explored those avenues. The simple pop songs about partying and never growing up were an appealing part of blink-182 when I was 11-14. But they aren't the primary reason I love the band. I love the band because they were very catchy songwriters whose lyrics spoke to a lot of different things I felt or was going through. They were funny and fun sometimes, yeah, but they were more than that some of the time as well. Their songs resonated with me not just when I was a kid, but as I grew up as well. As I started thinking about darker or more complicated things, they started writing about darker and more complicated things. I'm not deluding myself, as lyricists and songwriters I know they're not exactly among folks like Ben Gibbard, Nas, Bruce Springsteen, or Aimee Mann. There are other outlets I can go to for more mature songs and better written stuff. But Mark and Matt Skiba have written some affecting, personal, mature songs. Songs that were uniquely them and felt like a progression from the sort of earnestly emotional people they always were, more mature and containing more depth than blink were given credit for when they were thought of as a joke band. There was stuff that felt really meaningful amongst the fun fluff like "What's My Age Again" or "Rock Show" and I feel like when Mark pursued complete albums in more serious/darker tones, he really killed it on the untitled record and WYHSB. And even while acknowledging that it's totally fine that they're interested in pursuing a different tone and style, this is a band that was really formative for me and was doing something while I was growing up that was hugely influential and meaningful to me. So I'll always have a yearning for new and more interesting/serious blink-182/Mark Hoppus material, because it's something they were very actively deciding to do when I was growing up and I thought they were quite good at it and I'd like to hear more of it. I'm not saying they can't be happy doing what they're doing or that I'm mad at them for not wanting to do something else. I'm very glad they're finding critical and commercial success in what they're doing. But my personal investment in blink-182 will wain if they continue to tread water in the same stylistic/tonal/thematic waters they're currently in.

SUPERMAN was my go to song when I was skate boarding (not very well) as a dumb preteen lol. Memories abound.

  9. I get that.

Will Ferrell covered more serious themes than he usually does in The Lego Movie and Stranger Than Fiction as well. Yet the are still The Lego Movie and Stranger Than Fiction.

I think Last Train Home might be the best blink song since 2003 for me. I'm still amazed by it.

Haha... then again, blink is a better band so the logic would mean that it should be better anyway? Guess it doesn't help that Travis is drumming which won't help to not blur any lines.

    Goldfinger is all about Spokesman.
The Tony Hawk games had great soundtracks...

  20. i wouldn't have discovered a lot of the punk rock bands i listen to and their label mates/similar bands if it wasn't for Tony Hawk 2's soundtrack.

I wonder if the same people (here's looking at you, reddit) who complained that California sounded too much like Goldfinger/JF will complain how new Goldfinger is trying to sound like blink
