It's so frustrating knowing that this will be used as a justification to have tighter controls here and to up the anti-immigrant hatred. I cannot speak for this attack (nor would I want to honestly) but every attack to have happened against this country since the Lockerbie bombing has been by a UK national. Hating those outside the country is not the answer, keeping better watch over those within the country and making sure we're all properly protected from outside influences and becoming disillusioned with life here is. This will drive politics to play into this sick bastard's hands and it makes this horrific event even more upsetting.

 

I agree with the sentiment, it's very Trump-y, but I agree with what he's trying to say.

There was a Charlie Brooker article a while back about the next time a terrorist attack happens, not calling them terrorists or naming them at all, just calling them "a massive wanker".

Of course they do. They claim responsibility for literally everything. It's how they hype themselves up to gain followers.

 

I admit that I'm afraid of big events. Like a HUGE concert in a huge city or especially a huge holiday event. I was in Berlin for New Years and I was worried on some level. Otherwise I'm not afraid. Like movies or something doesn't even cross my mind.

I went to Rockefeller Center last year around Christmastime and I was terrified the entire time. Packed in with people, even with police offers everywhere, I just didn't feel safe in any way.

 

I wish media outlets wouldn't mention these terrorist groups. Maybe they wouldn't do it anymore if they never got the attention.

It makes those arguments even less defensible though. It stops the more sensible people, who are just scared on an event by event basis rather than those deliberately trying to stir up hate and division from building up a narrative of 'anyone that is of a different race is bad' in their heads. If spread widely enough, and that point is focused on enough, we can suppress those arguments as much as is possible.
