I think we spend too long critcising Mark/Feldmann/Tom. I'm throwing some heat Travis' way. The "disco beat" on Good Old Days sickens me. Also whatever you were doing during the verse of Don't Mean Anything too.

I like the chorus, I find it catchy and getting stuck in my head. That being said I do see it's faults definitely

That's what worked for Untitled though. Coming from TOYPAJ, it "wasn't blink" and that worked...

That's an interesting take, especially after there was a discussion in here a few days ago about how the band, Mark specifically, doesn't seem like they're writing from experiences they have/had so the songs come off as disingenuous.

There pop-punk and then there's a song that sounds like every 'pop'-punk band out now.

  7. It worked for Untitled because although it sounded different than TOYPAJ, it still sounded like Blink-182 to me. It was a natural progression from Box Car Racer, basically. But "Bottom of the Ocean" doesn't sound like a natural progression. It sounds very forced to me. If "BOTO" is indeed a natural progression for them and they want to experiment with that sound more, count me out!

I wonder what this sells this week. Blink must do great with pre-orders and they had those 4 pack vinyl bundles too.

Going off my initial listen, the songs are fine, but I can't see many that'll stick in my permanent Blink rotation. Very cool that we got 10+ new songs.

Only just heard the new calideluxe songs. They're alright, but nothing special. The depressed, teenage, emo lyrical tropes are becoming way too predictable though - same with the riffs too. The main problem is the songs don't stand out enough for me. It's like Green Day's trilogy album (but still better).

The lack of love and amount of hate for the title track makes me sad.

That song makes me so nostalgic of when I lived in California. Maybe that's why I feel so strongly about it

I like the title track, mainly Skiba's backing vocals in the final chorus

Been listening to this throughout the day - I really like it. I guess the only big complaint is you kind of get a "Bon Jovi" effect with the songs - throw one or two of them in a playlist and they are standout awesome songs. Throw them on in a row and you start to notice they follow a formula.

    Quick Thoughts:

-Last Train Home is probably the closest to a Blinkaline Trio song we've gotten so far.

-6/8 and Bottom Of The Ocean are what When Your Heart Stops Beating would have sounded like had Feldman produced it.

-The opening riff and WooOhhs on Hey I'm Sorry would have gone on for at least 2.5 more minutes if this were an AVA album.

-Love the acoustic version of Bored To Death - Mark should always sing it down an octave, sounds a lot less painful (figuratively and literally)

All in all it is a nice add-on to California. I think the closest thing they've done to this before is Dogs Eating Dogs (which while it was an EP release, was sort of a follow-up to Neighborhoods) and this blows that out of the water.

I actually really like it. It's in the upper half of songs they released this era

I couldn't ever get into it. The only reason I appreciate it is bc my GF and I went to a local ice cream parlor and they played that song while I was ordering haha.

I preferred Dogs Eating Dogs EP to everything they've released in the 2010's. Thought it was a solid bunch of songs. The vocal melodies and lyrics are pretty pitiful and cringy with most songs on each California album, especially the verses.

  22. Dogs Eating Dogs was mostly great. Those first 3 songs rule. "Boxing Day" is meh, but "Pretty Little Girl" is in my top 5 least favorite Blink songs, I think, haha.

Disaster and When I Was Young are classic Blink though, in my opinion. Those two songs > 99% of their recent discography. When Tom was in the band more of their lyrics just seemed more genuine for some reason.

Couldn't disagree more. Dogs Eating Dogs wasn't bad, but it just felt like a clash of styles and not in a good way. Sounded like AVA with a hint of blink. Just not a good sound to me, but to each their own.

California is a kick ass record and the deluxe version is a welcome addition to keep me held over until blink releases new music. Long live the Skiba era.

Anyone else getting a fall out boy vibe from bottom of the ocean? I like the song!
