The pork chop "joke" isn't funny or clever at all. Offended here, not as a Jew, but as a shitty joke-teller

The Judiciary Committee is only one of the senate committees investigating, right?

  9. Maybe he really really really does just want out of this job? Does he know he can resign?

What's more a loser move - quitting or hanging around long enough to be fired?

  11. This conversation may be better suited in this thread, and not the TWIABP one as the conversation shifts to a discussion not about the band/music but about the police.

Agreeing to take part in a corrupt and racist institution is where "every single cop" is culpable. And those that are silent while that continues to take place (which is the vast, vast majority), continue to be as well.

He was smart enough to settle Trump University, surely he's smart enough to know he can resign. But would his ego let him?

  13. Also, he's 10000000% going to pardon Flynn.

Well, the guy who wrote his book said he will resign but in some weird rational way that somehow turns his loss into a win

Graham saying it's a criminal probe now....but is he just saying that to justify scaling back his own committee's investigation?

damn i think this is the first time on this forum i finally talk about how much i do NOT like conservatism! hue hue! Anyway, to respond to what was being said in the TWIABP thread:

Regarding the concept of 'bad mouthing Christians':

Obviously this is a reaction to White Conservative Christianity as it's historically, and continues to, be used to oppress women + minorities. So, that's where that comes from. Obviously, I understand this, and I hate it as well. I'm as secular as you can get, really.

As a minority of indigenous Christians from the Middle East, I do get irritated how people think it's OK to generalize Christianity and act like it's a Western religion. Leftists do this as a reaction to White Conservative Christianity, again, but they don't realize how this affects minority, non-white populations from other regions who are otherwise not given any voice. Considering Christianity actually came from the Middle East and indigenous populations there are being obliterated, I find it hard to not be irritated about this narrative - erasure of minorities is not a good way to combat the issue.

People thinking Christianity is the religion of the white man, or a Western religion, has literally dismissed and contributed to the genocide of these people who otherwise would expect support from Leftists, and have absolutely nothing to do with White Christianity in the first place. So, I merely ask Leftists to at least give nuance to something they otherwise don't. A distinction helps. This is a good and short article (literally only a few minutes to read, if even that) about it that everybody should read to get some understanding about what I mean: OPINION: Stop ignoring the persecution of Coptic Christians

    Here's a particular excerpt:
Thankfully, people are starting to talk about this because we are realizing that many, many POC in America are Christian but that doesn't stop them from being targeted. This 'Christian privilege' doesn't protect them. Especially with how real everything is right now.

Here are two very recent articles about this:

Opinion | Trump is evangelicals’ ‘dream president.’ Here’s why.

Redeeming the Soul of America with ‘Reverend Resistance’

    As for everything else:

People who are socially liberal are more likely to be secular, even when they identify as a certain religious group/sect. Because they don't want religion mixed into politics. That is what is great about separation of church and state. When that is threatened, things go downhill for women + minorities, and freedom of expression, press, and religion, very fast. It becomes right-wing authoritarianism.

Conservatism, especially when religion is tied to it, is built on a structure that regresses society and disproportionately targets women, LGBTQ+, the poor and the sick, and ethnic/religious minorities. There is no reason to hate other people for being different from you. Or wanting them to be treated worse just because you "don't like them" or because your religion (regardless of which religion that may be, I don't really care) calls for it.

Intolerant Liberals – Tucker FitzGerald – Medium

This is a standard throughout the world - it is not some phenomenon in any one country or culture. The degree to how severe it is depending on laws and other situations (intervention, war, etc) is the difference. I don't think "everything Conservatives say is wrong" technically . It's more about why it's being said, it is the manner in which they propose said thing, the reason why they're saying it, what their motive and end goal is. So, I think most things you say are wrong. If there's any point of agreement between right and left wing - it's clearly for different reasons. A lot of RW rhetoric is based on ignorance and misunderstanding, which leads to fear mongering and reactionary politics. A lot of it is based on plain discrimination and thinking lesser of other groups of people. A safer and freer world is dependent on secularism. Once religion creeps into politics - we see how that plays out, time and time again.

I could go back and forth all day about this, but I don't usually because well the pol thread is generally full of like-minded people. We all end up in the same box on the political compass, the differences are where the dots in that box is placed, and how our personal experiences, esp regarding our identities, helps shape specific subjects.

As for the cop stuff - we're not supposed to be advocating for violence towards anyone or any group of people on this forum as that's against the rules and well I don't think we want people on here or the website in any trouble.

However, we know that there is a abuse of power by authorities. And, again this disproportionately targets POC people here. Right-wing narratives capitalize on that fear mongering and punishment. So we can understand why people have a fear or hatred of police.

can you pardon as an acquitted president?! wtf if possible. esp for those who have committed treason.

  22. I had some bullshit post about this the other day, but this is my guess. If it came down to him resigning, he would blame it on everyone else but himself and try to spin it in a way that makes it seem like democrats were getting in the way of him "Making America Great Again"

More relevantly, what actually is the reason for Chaffetz resigning? I get it if he wants to move to other things, but like, he's kinda in the middle of something fairly important...and he's kinda in a good place to move onto bigger things politically...

I think he dislikes being forced to do anything, so being forced to get rid of Flynn is a loss in his mind, which he wants to avenge.
