I was saying that as how I interpreted the "review". I felt there were undertones of sexism in the "review" I was reacting to, because it paints that narrative of her (the part you bolded). As in, it's not my opinion at ALL - it's exactly the opposite of my opinion, and I think it's a very problematic opinion. Every impression I've ever gotten of Hayley has been nothing but positive and down to earth, and I think it's absolutely absurd she's had to constantly battle those kinds of accusations throughout her career, and I think it pretty directly has led to the darker lyrical themes of this album.

And yes, this album is definitely a knock out. AOTY for me so far, and will almost definitely land in my top 3.

Oh I knew you weren't making those comments, I'm just not sure why someone would. There's nothing about being a powerful frontwoman that automatically equates to "bitch" in my head, so unless someone is all knotted up over the various band members leaving over the years then I'm not sure what they're on about. Far as I'm concerned she's one of the most striking and versatile female vocalists I can recall.

Sweet. "Hard Times" grew on me a bunch since first hearing it, I'm fine with them going pure pop

Ok good I thought it was clear I was being sarcastic but I wanted to make sure it wasn't coming across wrong. And I mean yea it's beyond me, and the article didn't say that exactly, but it is the narrative that has unfortunately surrounded her/Paramore for years and it was pretty much what that review seemed to be getting at.

Wasn't there stuff about Hayley's parents really being the ones to try to push her forward and overshadow the rest of the band, in those earlier years? Because I would believe that with how some parents get fame obsessed, and Hayley probably had to fight that a bit and was uncomfortable with all of it.

Much of the Farro brother's accusations when their split happen referenced similar sentiments.

I honestly think it's better to just avoid this conversation altogether. No sense in revisiting band drama from the past, especially since I don't think anyone here really holds negative opinions of Hayley. (I realize I kind of started it, but just because I was frustrated the review was even bringing those kinds of things up in the first place).

The Paramore album? No. Drums and percussion are almost all organic. From the drum set to marimba and to all the background percussion. There's very few electronic elements (drum wise) throughout the record.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE AS A FLORIDIAN, I HAVE TWO DIFFERENT OPTIONS FOR A TOUR.

That being said, Jacksonville is closer to me but I'm probably going to do Orlando because that's the week I start PT school and that date would be better since it's a Saturday.

Unfortunately, being a powerful woman often equates to "bitch" for many people.

  12. They're just a bad website in general. It's the worst of Grantland, none of the good, and a few podcasts that are worth listening to.

God, that review is the most pretentious thing I have ever read. These reviews where it's clear the people writing them have only a surface level understanding of the band and use a lot of poppy adjectives to hide their obvious lack of information seem more useless than the music itself - to claim something is simultaneously good and not necessary is ridiculous, considering no music has to exist for the world to still turn. He's like, "yeah this is a bunch of stuff that is good but not good because it's Paramore. If anyone else did it, it'd be good. But because Paramore did it, it's a waste of time." That's what I am getting out of that. It's Katy Perry, the Chainsmokers, Taylor Swift...everything but Paramore because this guy decided that those artists have some sort of patent on pop sounds in general, I guess?

I've got my fingers crossed for Bleachers in the CVRCHES/Tegan & Sara spot (Hayley and Jack have shown some mutual love back and forth), I wouldn't be surprised if New Found Glory & mewithoutYou are there again (both have played both times so far, and If I was going on a cruise, I'd want my spouse to be there, and if that spouse happens to be in a well known band, why not have them play again. It's never made more sense for mewithoutYou to play either). I'd love to see Petal there too (not a prediction as much as a wish, and inspired because Kiley tweeted about After Laughter this morning).

  23. Everyone.

These last few days were so good for me.

You might have seen my comments on Friday about how disappointed I was following my first listen of After Laughter. I very carefully framed my comments as not to say "this music sucks," but rather "this style really didn't jive with me." In all honesty though, I was seriously upset. Angry, even. I was so determined to love this album as much as I'd loved the self-titled that I spent the rest of my weekend frustrated, bummed out, and nearly depressed about it.

It's so perfect that this album has the song "Idle Worship" on it...because those lyrics describe exactly what happened to me. I realized over the weekend that I was so upset because I had idolized Paramore and my expectations for them. I wanted Paramore to make an album for me, rather than letting Paramore make an album for Paramore. And you know what? My idol failed me. Idols always will fail -- they will never meet our demands. And this was so good for me, to realize that I'd turned Paramore into an idol in my life. After coming to terms with this, I spent the past day or two attempting to mentally and emotionally remove them from the pedestal I'd placed them on; and I'd argue that taking idols out of our lives is always a healing process.

That said, I just returned to After Laughter for a second listen. I didn't know if my anger would still burn, and I figured that all the nit-picky things that bugged me Friday would still bug me today. Nevertheless, I dove in with tempered expectations, hoping to enjoy the album for what Paramore were trying to create.

And it was a joy. I loved every song.

    WE! ARE! PARAMORE!!!!
