I think my main gripe with the lyrics now is that they use so many of the same or similar words (and least it feels like that to me)

  2. you lost me at "Pretty Little Girl"

and yeah you're right, there's plenty of Blink songs with good/great lyrics. you forgot "Apple Shampoo" by the way :-)

  3. Mark's best lyrics mostly come from either Dude Ranch or Untitled

  4. I think one of the things I hate most about Feldmann's production is the guitar tones. Give them at least just a little bit of low end! It's so high/mid-rangy, but there's no balls to it. I get it when people say "turn the guitar's lows down and let the bass handle that area" but there's nothing wrong with beefing up the guitars to help make it all sound more powerful. The guitars just sound so thin and screechy on all of California's songs. The only guitar bits that sound good are the lead riffs (which there aren't many of) and the palm mutes.

I always say this. Music is subjective, just because you don't like something doesn't mean your students/friends/whatever Wong like it.

Also, while I love dude ranch and the like, the lyrics are about on par as they've always been. I don't give an credence to the people throwing a fit over the lyrics.

  8. That kills me too because Skiba has such a sweet smooth sound.

Perfect Deluxe version/California B-side. Fast, full of energy and simple safe Blink.

I do love some great lyrics, but with Blink I know there can be some immaturity and attempted humour sometimes. The band wrote Family Reunion after all. It's kinda funny that a bunch of people likely in their 20's are trying to tell a man in his 40's to grow up.

And I subjectively believe that there are much better artists/albums to get into the genre with than this trite garbage. I don't believe that watering down lyrics to overused sayings is a good way to get kids into music. Give them the better songs with actually personal lyrics and they'll resonate more

I'm 30 and I can't imagine myself writing lyrics like this, Parking Lot, SOOHM, etc....let alone have any connection with them today. @bradsonemanband is right, gotta accept the fact Blink isn't writing music for me anymore and hasn't been for years.

My connection with Blink's songwriting has been long gone since Untitled came out. I was 16 when that came out and it was too mature for me even then haha. I love that album now, but the Blink I loved was Dude Ranch, Enema, and TOYPAJ. If I wanted darker/mature music to connect with...that was BCR, Alkaline Trio, and Rise Against around that time.

  15. Besides Hey I'm Sorry, the rest of these songs so far haven't done much for me. If that's the case the album itself is a failure to me.

You think the lyrics on this song are equal to the lyrics on Dude Ranch? That's baffling. Subjectivity out the window, that's a bad opinion to have.

I said on par not equal. There's a difference.

  18. And the thing is you can still get that with the Trio, Rise Against or even a band like the Bouncing souls per say. I think that's why I'll always be able to connect with every Trio album. It brings something out.

And that's fine, but (and i don't mean to be a dick so don't take it the wrong way) who are you to decide what is and isn't good enough? Let kids make up their own minds.

  21. That's why My Shame is such a great album. Bill really brought everything out in that album and reached the bands full potential.

The majority of blink's lyrics being "immature" is drastically different than full of trite cliches and sayings that have been dragged around for decades. I can't really fathom a group of grown men who've been making music for 25 years wanting to write/record/play songs that have lyrics that sound like they'd be in a parody of angsty punk rock

    Exactly.

  24. absolutely. i'd be completely on board if Blink ever decides to go with Bill. unfortunately though, i don't see that happening now.

    Things have changed.

I was pretty off the Trio after This Addiction, which I thought was terrible, but My Shame Is True brought me back.
