I'll just quote what someone said at the blink-182online boards: "Hard to believe this is the same guy that wrote Little Death and Chapter 13."

While I don't disagree with what you're saying, I think we all need to find some middle ground on these lyrics to end the whole "is it ok to criticize blink's lyrics?" debates. haha.

    1) Blink has never had deeply poetic lyrics. They've had their moments, but for the most part, we like them because they are easy to relate to or are fun to sing along with. We shouldn't be trying to over-analyze them.

    2) Other side of the coin... If the bar is already that low, but the lyrics are bad enough where they take you out of the song or make you hesitant to sing along with them, then it's fair game to criticize. This song has some pretty slopped together, phoned in lyrics.

I feel like too many people argue one or the other.

I've never been a lyrics guy, so unless bands sing about offensive stuff or whatever i don't really care.

    Fist bump!

  5. nah, i haven't really been into that song since it first came out. i liked the chorus though. sometimes i forget that song exists though. maybe i'll like it more in context with the rest of the "new album."

I like it, it's catchy. I would probably put it after Misery, Hey I'm Sorry and 6/8 for the deluxe songs we have heard so far.

I liked this song more the second time around. big fan of the dueling vocals at the end. that bored to death riff though, it's gotta go haha.

I think I'm just gonna have to accept that blink isn't making music for me anymore, they're making it for the new generation of kids growing up on this new wave of pop-punk, and that's totally fine and understandable. Glad for everyone who likes it, and I wish blink success, just doesn't hit me right anymore though.

  11. yeah, and with Blink, i've never really cared to learn their lyrics. there's songs of theirs that i've been listening to for almost 20 years and like a million times each that i still mumble sounds on when i'm singing along because i don't actually know the lyrics. haha.

  12. this is accurate, and i agree, sadly. they'll play old songs for us and new songs for our kids.

    Things have changed.

Yes, this is how I feel. Enema changed my life back in 1999, and that era of Blink was my world. It's sad to have to accept your one-time favorite band will never make you feel that way again, but that's life!

Man if any of my students were getting into the genre from blink's new music, I'd easily steer them in the direction of another band

come on, these are great lyrics, guys!:

    Everything you've ever hoped for
Waiting there outside your front door
    Bleeding to death
    Everything you've never wanted
Here to stay just like that haunted place
They save for everyone's dying breath

(totally cool if you don't like it though lol)

  16. hahaha sorry!

the verses on it actually remind me of an old song i wrote a few years ago and so i hear that every time i listen to "hey i'm sorry." it throws me off.

    But why? Music is subjective.

  18. Aha that's great. I always felt the song sounded like something that would have been on Agony & Irony.

  19. Haha. If I was a teacher I would probably push my students to go back and explore Dude Ranch, old Saves the Day, The Get Up Kids, or whatever else from the late 90's.

  20. I hate to be that guy but I don't think I'll be buying the deluxe. I feel like if I did it would be collecting dust.

Great blink lyrics? I know people won't agree, but at the top of my head: "Wasting Time" "Lemmings", "Adam's Song", "I Miss You", "Stockholm Syndrome", "Here's Your Letter", "All Of This", "After Midnight", "MH 4.18.2011", "Kaleidoscope", "Fighting The Gravity", "When I Was Young", "Pretty Little Girl", "Home Is Such A Lonely Place", "San Diego"...

This is why I don't take Travis' or Marks' word to heart anymore though. Tom gets a lot of shit, but Travis is just as big a hypeman. I get that your trying to sell yourself and your product(s), but if all three (or fourish) members listened to these songs and thought they were way better than the original album, then something is wrong.
As for John Feldmann, I think he did a good job of getting blink back into the spotlight, but I really don't think he understands blink The same way Jerry did (or even the members themselves). Feldmann knows how to write a hit, but I don't think he brings out the best of them long-term.
At this point, I'd be much more interested in a self-produced blink album with Skiba than a third Feldmann produced record

Also my least favorite of the new batch, unfortunately, but I'm not too disappointed considering these are all bonus songs.

I'm not giving them a pass, but from a musician's standpoint, I can't imagine writing as many songs as they did in this short span of time and having them all be quality. We're essentially getting leftovers from the last album and ideas that weren't tight enough to make the album. Or, at the very least, they are songs they started writing AFTER they had already written 30+.

I just think eventually they ran out of steam and they're just putting out whatever they have. It happens. I mean, even in the pre-chorus section, Mark doesn't even sound like his pitch was corrected in production. So basically...I'm just taking these songs for what they are.

However, if you don't even like California, that's an entirely separate argument.
